I can't wait!!!

One of the main reasons I buy DVDs at all are the extra features such as blooper reels, alternate endings, deleted scenes.... but since I haven't invested in the Grey's season boxes, I shall have to be content with Youtube!

Are we there yet??? Are we there yet??!

Two down (orientation sessions, that is) a few more to go, and lots of stuff and general busyness to get through before departure day. I was just commenting to a friend tonight how much there is to do, how much there is to think about, just for three weeks, and a few long haul flights. I just feel like jumping on a plane and getting there and getting into it tomorrow. Of course, all this prep is necessary, but I feel like I'm ready to leave. Now. Three weeks is just going to fly.... just like my three weeks relieving someone at work at the moment - one week down, two to go starting tomorrow morning. Last week just flew by, luckily... well, parts of it did, anyway! I'm just gritting my teeth and doing it.... but I digress. However, if we were already over there, it would mean that one week would already be over, and there'd be only two left to go, and that would be it, it will be all over!

So, here's part of my to do list:
  • see dentist (ick!)
  • see GP and get appropriate vaccinations

    yes, very pleasant list...

    Excitement Looms

For those of you who don't know this about me yet, I love travelling and seeing the world. But I hate long haul flights the swollen feet resulting, and the jetlag. Once I'm there, I'm fine. It's a bit of a love-hate relationship, really.

The news is that I am about to head off to Central Asia at the end of the year, with a team of nine other people from church. We'll be there for three weeks or so doing alot of learning, and maybe a little of the actual doing. I'm excited about the people we're going to meet, the new food, the culture, the scenery, the potential photos that will be taken to capture all those unforgettable memories... I'm not too excited about the cold.... -15°C.... BRRRRRRRRR!.... the squat toilets, not being able to understand a word that's being said, and trying to communicate back...

Anyway, here's an invite to you and especially to the 4 of you regulars who still visit this blog, please visit the new blog I've especially set up for our team here.

    Not Normal

Yes, sorry long time no ramble here. Not much to ramble about, really. However, I must say that it is rather disconcerting and strange about a guy who is actually observant enough to notice you don't have make-up on, and has as freakish a memory as you do about the little things. No, I don't think he's a normal run-of-the-mill sort of guy...

Chaos, doubling up, 18 hours, and slurred speech

I've just woken up at 3 this afternoon (it's now 4) and am feeling completely jetlagged after pulling an 18 hour shift overnight from 1pm yesterday afternoon. Hmmm... let's see. I worked from 1-9:30pm, that's a full 8 hour shift, then stayed until 7 this morning - that's a full 10 hour shift on top!) I so don't miss this feeling! It's a great reason why as a general rule, I don't do nights anymore! The girls at work were asking me when my last night shift was. I can't even remember! It's probably been about 2 years??!

Hee! I don't even know why I'm blogging, probably to note down in cyberspace somewhere for later purposes that yesterday afternoon was the craziest chaos I've ever come across in the ED! I saw a person's blown pupil for the first time in my career from skull fractures. The number of patients weren't the issue but the sheer acuity of them was what made all the difference. It wasn't even the fact that in most bed spaces, we had to put double the number of beds in them. Anyway, quite incoherent now, and will probably edit this and add to it later... Oh yeah, that's right. It's the first time I've been told how drunk I sound from slurred speech when I'm so sleep deprived and manic! And I just couldn't stop giggling about the silliest things. Yes. For some bizarro reason, that needed to be noted down somewhere. Probably a good warning to people I will ever be travelling with, oh, say on any long haul overseas trips! Great.
