A weekend in review...
I must say that it's been an interesting weekend, mostly strange, actually, but also fun, relaxing and well... weekendy, other than the fact that I actually worked this afternoon. It all started on Friday, really. Here's the strange bit of Friday - I had arranged to visit friends and have lunch with them, but then, 'cos they had had breakfast late, they sort of forgot that I had timed my visit for lunch that they politely kicked me out without lunch, so at 12:45pm, I ended up heading to another friend's place quite spontaneously and ended up having lunch with her instead!
Friday night was also strange. Instead of ending up at our last Bible Study gathering for the year, that got cancelled, so I funnily enough ended up at the Mark Peterson CD launch with yet ANOTHER friend. That was all well and good also. It was an enjoyable launch, small, on a budget, at-his-own-church-put-together-by-the-youth-group type production. Nowhere near as big as the This Way Up Launch! The funniest part of the night was when Mark and the band got up to do two encores. Half way through the first song, the one guy ran out the front and started moshing all by his lonesome! It was quite hilarious to watch, and we noticed that Mark couldn't look at him (even though he was literally half a metre away from his face) otherwise he just would have cracked up laughing! But then some others joined in the moshing later.
Saturday. What did I do on Saturday? Oh yeah, I finally saw the final Matrix movie. Yeh, it was pretty good. Then I got a migraine, so the rest of the day was a non-event.
Today I ended up finally visiting a colleagues's church that I said I'd visit about eight months ago! Mind you, some of my primary and high school friends go there, so it turned out to be a bit of a reunion and of course, the world got a little bit smaller again. Ok, now for the strangeness. Sesillia, Jenny, and Mike are the primary and high school friends who go there. Patricia is from work. Back inApril June I met Mike again after almost 17 years. He told me back then that he had just started going out with a girl from church. Today, I found out that not only are they now engaged, but he is engaged to a girl that went to school with Zoë's sister, and I was there visiting this church today with Zoë! The other strange thing was the fact that being a Hillsong church, and hearing all these bad things in the past about it, I was fully expecting to hear a dodgy sermon, as well as witnessing the emotional frenzy that is the norm there during praise and prayer. Well, we got the emotional frenzy part all right, but I was surprised that the sermon wasn't actually dodgy. It was actually a very challenging sermon on prayer. Ok, so it wasn't THAT strange, just a tad.
Then I came home, then headed off to work. I got to work, and they asked me to stay until 11pm. I decided to say yes ...with great reluctance. So with less than ten minutes left of this day, I shall head off to bedfordshire and hope that nothing else strange will happen in what's left of this weekend. Mind you, the fact that I'm back in winter pyjamas in early summer in Sydney is pretty strange. Hmmm...
