And the word of the day is Methadone...
It's rather infuriating how easy it is for women who are already on illicit drugs like heroin and methadone to have babies and for them to be selfish enough to endanger their baby's life in the process. In the one shift in the birthing unit tonight, we came across two of these women.Unfortunately, they're all very similar...they smell really bad, are in a drowsy state, are only interested in going downstairs for a smoke, are carrying babies who are small for their gestational age and whose boyfriends will sneak whatever other drugs they are on into the hospital ward for them. What's even more infuriating is that one of them had had 3 hits of heroin during the week as well as her daily dosage of methadone...this means that the drug clinic isn't screening these people to make sure they don't get their methadone if they're still taking heroin. And, what's more like I just said about the boyfriends, is that the mother of this girl didn't want us to let the girl's boyfriend in as she was sure the boyfriend would bring her more drugs, but the whole sad and sorry saga actually began when the mother's boyfriend started sexually abusing her as a five year old in the first place. It's infuriating because there just doesn't seem to be any hope for these kids born, and they always end up in the same viscious circle themselves. Many of us just can't help but to have the opinion that such people should be sterilised as they shouldn't have kids, (especially when there are so many people out there who would make great parents but aren't able to have any) not only for the sake of the child/children (usually they breed like rabbits) but because they are such a drain on the government. But what they really need is to know the love of God so that they can get themselves out of such messes.
Okay, enough venting.
